MONMOUTH MP David Davies is urging residents in Monmouthshire to have their say on proposals to manage future flood risk along the Severn Estuary.
Environment Agency Wales is currently consulting on a draft strategy that sets out how it intends to work with its partners to manage tidal flood risk along the Severn Estuary over the next 100 years.
The Severn Estuary Flood Risk Management Strategy identifies areas between Lavernock Point in Cardiff and Hinkley Point in Somerset, including the Gwent Levels, which are most at risk of tidal flooding. It also sets out what the Agency believes to be the best approach to managing this risk in a way that is sustainable for people, the economy and the environment.
As part of the consultation, two drop in information sessions are being held to give communities along the Welsh stretch of the estuary the opportunity to get involved in the strategy, raise any concerns they may have, and put forward their own ideas.
The sessions will be held between 3pm-7pm on:
- Tuesday, 22nd February 2011 at Ebenezer Baptist Chapel, Magor, NP26 3HY
- Thursday, 24th February 2011 at Marshfield Village Hall, Marshfield, CF3 2UB
Speaking from Westminster, Mr Davies said: “I would urge anyone who is concerned about what Environment Agency Wales is planning to have their say and ensure their voice is heard.
“Staff will be on hand at the information sessions to answer any questions residents may have on the draft strategy, as well as to explain how these proposals have been determined and what options have been considered”.
Copies of the draft strategy are available online at http://www.severnestuary.net/frms/publications.html.
The consultation closes on Friday, 18th March 2011.
