FORMER Monmouth AM David Davies has congratulated his successor to the Welsh Assembly on a ‘fantastic’ election result.
Mr Davies, who promised to stand down from the Assembly to concentrate on his role as Member of Parliament for the area, saw Nick Ramsay hold on to the seat for the Conservatives after polling 15,389 votes.
Speaking from Monmouth today, Mr Davies said: “I am delighted with the way the election turned out and it is testament to the hard work of Nick and his team that we achieved such an impressive result in Monmouth, securing a majority of 8,469.
“I know that Nick will be an excellent representative for the people of Monmouthshire and I look forward to working closely with him in the future.
“I have thoroughly enjoyed representing the constituency of Monmouth in the Welsh Assembly for the past eight years and am thankful for all the support I have received throughout this time. The people of Monmouth now have two representatives and I shall be continuing to hold surgeries several times a month and will, as ever, take up any issues that are brought to me.”
