David Davies, the Conservative MP for Monmouth, today launched a stinging attack on Government plans to close down 2,500 Post Offices across the country, stranding thousands of people and further eroding rural communities in Monmouthshire and beyond.
Speaking from Monmouth today, David said, “It seems perfectly apparent to me that the Government’s grand plan for the Post Offices is less outlets providing less services to less and less people. While this might be good news for the “Clunking Fist” at the Treasury it is a shame that that same fist cannot extend itself and become the helping hand that the Post Office network so clearly needs.
“While the Government are giving with one hand by heeding Conservative calls to maintain or replace the Post Office Card Account, they are crushing the life out of thousands of local Post Offices with the cold grip of the other hand. My colleagues and I will be continuing to fight against this assault on our local communities and ensure that the Post Offices or rural Monmouthshire and further afield are supported in their vital communal role.”
