An ambitious Wyesham food pantry set up to support families struggling with living costs is set to expand thanks to a National Lottery funding boost.
The Wyesham Food On Our Doorstep (FOOD) club has been awarded £8,000 from The National Lottery Community Fund in Wales to increase capacity.
Based at Wyesham Christian Fellowship, the club is backed by national charity Family Action and provides the local community with good quality weekly food bags, while helping to drive down food waste and reduce social isolation.
For a membership of just £1 per year, families can ‘shop’ at the club once a week and purchase a bag of tasty food items worth approximately £10-£15 for only £3.50-£4.00, including fresh fruit, vegetables, meat and dried and tinned foods.
Monmouth MP David Davies recently visited to see the club in action, which is open every Friday from 10:00am until 12:00pm, and met with volunteers who give up their time to run it.
“Anyone can find themselves in financial difficulty and it was great to hear how the Wyesham food pantry is supporting those in the local community who need a helping hand,” said Mr Davies.
“Fantastic work is being done to alleviate the pressure of growing food bills for struggling families, while also bringing people together for friendships.”
To become a member, you must live or work within 15 minutes of the club. For more information, visit www.family-action.org.uk
