MONMOUTH MP David Davies is warning Blue Badge holders to be aware of Pay and Display tariffs at a private Abergavenny car park.
Mr Davies has been contacted by several disabled shoppers in recent weeks who received a fine after parking in the Cibi Walk Shopping Precinct car park. As Blue Badge holders parking in a disabled bay, they mistakenly thought they were entitled to unlimited free parking as is the case in the town’s other car parks operated by Monmouthshire County Council.
Speaking from his constituency office in Usk, Mr Davies said: “The Cibi Walk Shopping Precinct is run by ParkingEye Ltd, a private company, and not Monmouthshire County Council.
“Unfortunately, Blue Badge holders are only entitled to unlimited free parking on local authority owned land and not on private land. A number of constituents have been caught out by this as they were unaware they had to purchase a Pay and Display ticket, which has resulted in a number of disputes with ParkingEye.
“I have submitted numerous appeals to ParkingEye and I must admit they have dealt with my correspondence in an extremely courteous manner. However, it’s fairly evident that the Blue Badge restrictions operated by ParkingEye are not being communicated effectively enough and there are concerns that the signage may be misleading people.
“ParkingEye argues there is a clearly marked instruction on the signage to Blue Badge holders that Pay and Display tariffs apply and I would like to reconfirm these restrictions to everyone who uses the Cibi Walk Shopping Precinct car park”.
