MONMOUTH MP David Davies is reminding Blue Badge holders to be aware of Pay and Display tariffs at a private Abergavenny car park.
Earlier this year, Mr Davies issued a warning after several disabled shoppers were fined for parking in the Cibi Walk Shopping Precinct car park. As Blue Badge holders parking in any marked bay, they mistakenly thought they were entitled to unlimited free parking as is the case in the town’s other car parks operated by Monmouthshire County Council.
The Cibi Walk car park is now run by Fullcircle Ltd after the contract with controversial management company ParkingEye came to an end in June.
Speaking from his constituency office in Usk, Mr Davies said: “Blue Badge holders are only entitled to unlimited free parking on local authority owned land and not on private land. A number of constituents have been caught out by this as they were unaware they had to purchase a Pay and Display ticket, which resulted in a large number of disputes with ParkingEye.
“Fullcircle operate the same Blue Badge restrictions and, unfortunately, I am starting to receive complaints from shoppers who have been fined. I’m concerned that these restrictions are not being communicated effectively enough and I would urge anyone who uses the Cibi Walk Shopping Precinct car park to carefully read the marked instructions on the signage so there can be no confusion”.
