MONMOUTH MP David Davies faced a grilling by students during a recent visit to Croesyceiliog School.
Mr Davies was invited to come and talk to GCSE Citizenship and A-level Government and Politics students about the workings of Parliament and his role as Chair of the Welsh Affairs Committee. He gave his popular ‘A Day in the Life’ presentation, before taking part in a lively question and answer session.
The A-level students quizzed him on issues ranging from Scottish devolution to the bad press teenagers get, while Year 11 students came thoroughly prepared with questions on topics such as the amount of foreign aid the UK gives, the level of the minimum wage for young people and what their MP thinks about school uniform.
Afterwards, Mr Davies was put through his paces by 60 Year 10 pupils, who wanted to know why he became an MP, whether he would recommend it as a career and what he thought the best aspects of the job are.
“It was an absolute pleasure to chat with the students of Croesyceiliog School,” said Mr Davies.
“As usual, they asked a range of shrewd and well-informed questions and certainly gave me food for thought! It was enormously refreshing to engage with a group so hungry and keen for answers.""
Politics teacher Alison Denton added: “It is great to see so many young people enthused by politics and prepared to question and challenge the world around them.""
