MONMOUTH MP David Davies officially opened a new factory in Chepstow today for a local global employer and manufacturer.
Osborn-Unipol Ltd has been an integral part of the town since 1943, then known as Dendix. The company, which makes specialist brush products, has secured £1million of investment and recently moved to new premises on Newhouse Farm Industrial Estate.
Speaking at the unveiling, Mr Davies said: “This is a day of great celebration. It is fantastic that Osborn-Unipol is willing to invest so much in this corner of south Wales and it is an investment that will pay off.
“Across Europe, we face a financial crisis caused partly by a balance of payment deficit. It is companies like Osborn-Unipol manufacturing high quality products which are being sold across the world that will pull Britain out of recession. I am very pleased to be here and look forward to maintaining a close relationship with this truly local global company as it continues to grow”.
As well as producing industrial brushes which are used in Llanwern and Trostre Steelworks, Osborn-Unipol invented artificial ski slopes and still has an active business supplying various slopes around the UK. The company also makes brushes for road sweepers and exports goods across Europe, the Middle East and South America.
After touring the new factory, Mr Davies recalled how his first job was in a warehouse over 20 years ago.
“Looking around, we have come a long way in terms of health and safety since I started my working life. This is a clean, pleasant and high-tech workplace which will be here for many years to come,” he added.
