MONMOUTH MP David Davies is inviting nominations for the best local music band or venue to represent the constituency in an exciting new Parliamentary competition.
Rock the House is a music contest with a political twist. Supporting unsigned bands and talented artists, it aims to raise political awareness of the importance of music and other creative businesses to the UK.
Launched by Mike Weatherley MP, Rock the House has already attracted significant interest from a number of chart-toppers and is being backed by a myriad of big names within the music industry, including key sponsors UK Music, Future Publishing and EMI.
Mr Davies will nominate one band and one live music venue. Official application forms are available to download from www.rockthehouse.me.uk and fully completed submissions should be emailed to david.davies.mp@parliament.uk or posted to David Davies MP, 16 Maryport Street, Usk, NP15 1AB, by Thursday, 31st March 2011.
An independent judging panel of music heavyweights will determine the five finalists in each category. The shortlist will be announced at the end of May 2011 and all competition finalists will be invited to a star-studded reception on the Terrace of the House of Commons on 30th June 2011, where the winners will be announced.
Prizes included the chance to perform live at a top music venue or music festival, a photo shoot with an internationally published music photographer, Yamaha gear and instruments and master classes from top sound and lighting engineers.
Mr Davies said: “I know from my visits to schools, clubs and other organisations that there is a wealth of musical talent in Monmouthshire, but sadly not every budding musician gets the recognition and success they deserve.
“Both culturally and economically, music is hugely important to this country and we must do all we can to support and promote the live music sector. Rock the House really is a fantastic opportunity and I would encourage anyone interested to apply. Indeed, it would be helpful if nominations were backed up by emails or letters of support from genuine local fans”.
Further details, including competition rules and guidelines, are available online at www.rockthehouse.me.uk.
