RUNNING for Parliament took on a different meaning for Monmouth MP David Davies when he took part in the Westminster Mile to raise money for Sport Relief.
Spurred on by former England and Lions rugby player Kyran Bracken, more than 40 MPs and peers swapped their suits for t-shirts, shorts and trainers to test their sporting prowess in St James’s Park.
And it was self-confessed fitness fanatic Mr Davies who crossed the line first in a time of five minutes and 29 seconds.
Thousands of people across the UK are expected to run one, three or six miles for Sport Relief on 21st March. Since its launch in 2002, the campaign has raised more than £80 million to help transform the lives of disadvantaged people in the UK and the world’s poorest countries.
Speaking afterwards, Mr Davies said: “Despite the cold, it was great to see Parliamentarians team up for such a good cause regardless of their political colours.
“I hope our fundraising venture will inspire others to join in the fun and rise to the challenge by signing up to run their own Sport Relief Mile”.
