David Davies today hit out at a miserly government which insists that members of the armed forces have to have individual television licences even when they live in barracks.
Speaking from his constituency office, Mr Davies said; “I was appalled to hear that members of our armed forces are forced to pay for individual television licences even when they are living in barrack blocks and are often away for long periods of time.
“These are people committed to the defence of our country, who are risking their lives in Iraq and Afghanistan or preparing to undertake tours of duties in these war zones.
“I should have thought that the least this government could do is to allow military personnel access to free television to enable them to relax when they are back in this country.
“I have written to the Minister of State for the Armed Forces and to the Minister for Culture. I hope that they will listen and accept that those prepared to sacrifice their lives for this country are entitled to expect some recompense from the government.”
