Monmouth MP David Davies has added his name to the list of public objections to the proposed housing development at Ty Mawr in Gilwern.
Mr Davies recently met with local residents, when concerns were raised about access to the site and the implications for traffic in the area if the application for 37 new homes is given the go-ahead.
""I did my training for my HGV licence at The Heads of the Valley Training Centre, so I know the roads around Ty Mawr very well,” said Mr Davies.
""The existing road from which this new estate will be served is very narrow, where two cars can only pass with care. If you try to squeeze 37 houses onto a site with an inadequate road, you are going to have chaos every morning and every evening.
""I am also concerned that there is no footway or pedestrian link to the village. Clearly, this development will create significant road safety issues to residents in both vehicles and as pedestrians if this issue is not addressed.
""I understand Monmouthshire County Council has also raised grave highway concerns and I have written to the Brecon Beacons National Park Authority to make sure these objections, which of are a very serious nature, are given full consideration before a final decision is made.”
