MONMOUTH MP David Davies has successfully completed a boxing leadership course alongside local Taekwondo coach Tony Farr and additional needs teacher Paul Catten.
The trio help coach pupils in non-contact boxing at Monmouth Comprehensive School and undertook the Amateur Boxing Association’s one-day ‘Leader’ training qualification in Staffordshire.
Mr Farr, who runs the school’s boxing club, said: “I have been involved with boxing and martial arts for decades but we all picked up a few useful tips on this course which I look forward to sharing with the youngsters.”
Boxing teaches discipline, fitness and respect for others and anyone at the school wanting to try it out would be most welcome on Wednesday or Friday afternoons.
Mr Catten said he was ‘thrilled’ to be able to assist in teaching the after-school boxing classes.
“Boxing has helped many of our students channel their energy into something constructive and it’s great to be a part of that,” he added.
A self-confessed fitness fanatic, Mr Davies has been boxing himself for seven years and is president of the Welsh Amateur Boxing Association.
“It’s great to be able to help out at the club when parliamentary duties allow,” he said.
