MONMOUTH MP David Davies is warning elderly residents to be on their guard against a sophisticated cold-calling scam.
Operated by a company offering security systems for £1, the scam is specifically targeted at people over the age of 79. In recent weeks, Mr Davies has received complaints that this company has been cold-calling residents in Monmouthshire.
Speaking from his office in Usk, Mr Davies said: “Like many things in life, the scheme being offered is too good to be true. Unfortunately, the £1 security systems turn out to have hefty installation costs, which the company is making significant profits from.
“Despicably, this company seems to be robbing from some of the most vulnerable people in society. I understand articles regarding their conduct have already appeared in national newspapers and they are flagged up on Martin Lewis’ Money Saving Expert website as a company to be aware of.
“I have referred the matter to my colleague James Brokenshire MP, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Crime Prevention, for investigation and I would urge residents across Monmouthshire to remain vigilant”.
