A rural Monmouthshire business is playing a leading role in supporting energy sectors which have been keeping Britain’s lights on throughout winter storms and the Covid-19 pandemic.
Safety Technology Ltd, based near Raglan for nearly 15 years, supplies equipment and training for the electrical generation and distribution sectors.
It specialises in the wind energy market and its rural location is key, allowing structures to be built so turbine technicians can be trained to work safely at height.
Monmouth MP David Davies visited the firm’s site in Clytha to see for himself – and even harnessed up to try some training.
“It was wonderful to learn that a company providing such an important service to the energy industry is based in the rural Monmouthshire countryside,” he said.
“Thank you to CEO Sarah Bridge and her team for giving me a first-hand experience of their commitment to stay safe while working at height.”
The small company is attracting clients from all parts of the UK and Ireland and has customers including Western Power Distribution, Scottish and Southern Energy, Northern Power Grid, UK Power Networks, Electricity North West, Vestas and Vattenfall.
The Global Wind Organisation (GWO) – a non-profit body founded by leading wind turbine manufacturers and operators to set safety training standards – has allowed Safety Technology Ltd to employ 10 local people in the development and supply of essential safety equipment and training.
“With all that is going on in the world, wind energy is going to be playing an increasingly important role in energy production and safety will be an absolute priority,” added Mr Davies.
“I will certainly be reminding any wind farm operators I meet that there is a fantastic Welsh company able to provide their safety training and equipment.”
Ms Bridge said: “Everyone was impressed by David’s willingness to get involved and to get some hands-on experience of what we do and why.
“We’re all very proud of our capability and even more so in our contribution to the safety at work of our clients in the wind energy generation, power transmission and distribution sectors.
“We remain committed to continuing to support those sectors with best-in-class training and equipment through product development and an open dialogue with statutory bodies, government and most importantly those who spend their careers “keeping the lights on” for the rest of us.”
