Small shopkeepers are being urged to put their names forward for a national award.
Now in its fifth year, the Best Small Shops competition celebrates the successes of small shops and the central role they play in their local community.
Open to any small shop in the UK, the competition is free to enter.
David Davies MP is calling on shops across the Monmouth constituency and their satisfied customers to get nominating.
“This year is more important than ever to commend independent retailers and their vital role in helping the economy transition out of lockdown," he said.
“Throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, many local small shops have gone above and beyond. From delivering goods to those shielding, giving discounts to NHS staff and other key workers, or diversifying to serve the needs of local people, these businesses have adapted quickly and deserve to be recognised.
“I’m proud of our shops and the willingness of residents to support the #ShopLocal campaign as we start to recover from what has been a challenging few months for everyone on the high street.”
Judges will be looking for evidence of a small shop's entrepreneurial spirit, ways they have been innovative in their business and what they have done to have a lasting positive impact on their community.
All entries must be a non-corporate business selling goods or services for consumption rather than resale.
The shortlisted small shops will then be in with the chance to win one of five awards, including the newly-launched award for small shops' response to Covid-19.
Businesses have until Friday 11 September 2020 to be nominated via www.bestsmallshops.co.uk
A shortlist will be revealed in October, with winners announced in November.
