Local Conservative MP, David Davies MP welcomed the news that recent figures show that youth unemployment is down significantly in his Monmouth constituency.
Figures supplied by the House of Commons Library illustrate that the number of people between the ages of 16-24 in the Monmouth Constituency claiming Jobseekers Allowance (JSA) is down overall from 595 in February 2012 to 295 in December 2013, a decrease percentage wise by 3.8% from 9.1% to 5.3%.
Mr Davies said “I am delighted to see that the necessary economic and welfare reforms the Coalition Government have introduced have provided young people with a pathway to work, providing them with opportunities that they otherwise would be denied. Every new job for a young person means another young person becoming more financially independent and increasing the options open to them in life.
This all shows that the tough economic decisions the Government has made to make sure that work pays and cut the deficit are increasing the career prospects for young people and ensuring that Britain is on the road to recovery.”
