Local MP David Davies has welcomed falling levels of unemployment in the Monmouth constituency.
Figures released from the Office of National Statistics last week show 1,161 people were claiming Jobseeker’s Allowance in July 2013, a rate of three per cent of the economically active population aged 16 to 64.
The number of claimants is 145 lower than in July 2012.
Mr Davies commented: “It’s very pleasing to see that unemployment in our area is continuing to drop and the job market is on the upturn.
“I am confident the Government’s economic policies are working and the UK is on the right course for recovery.
“We may still have a long way to go but I am hopeful we will see further progress in months to come.”
