David Davies MP is urging veterans from Monmouthshire who served on the Arctic Convoys and in Bomber Command to apply for new awards in recognition of their unique contribution protecting Britain during World War II.
Production of the Arctic Star medal and Bomber Command clasp is underway and living veterans and widows will be first in line to receive the awards.
Mr Davies said: “This is only a small token of the huge debt we owe the wartime generation.
“Those who served in Bomber Command and on the Arctic Convoys deserve nothing but the utmost respect and admiration. They are heroes in every sense of the word and played a vital role in two very significant campaigns of the Second World War.
“I am delighted that at long last their courage is finally being honoured and I want to see all those from Monmouthshire who have given so much for our country rightfully recognised.”
Families of those who have died will also be able to apply for the new awards in recognition of their loved ones’ bravery.
For an application form and details of eligibility criteria visit www.veterans-uk.info or telephone the MOD Medal Office on 08457 800 900 (local rate).
Veterans and next of kin must make an application as it is not possible for the Ministry of Defence to contact all those who may be eligible going back almost 70 years.
