Monmouth MP David Davies has spoken up strongly for a new M4 relief road at the launch of a consultation into the project by the Welsh Government.
In evidence for the consultation, Mr Davies has highlighted the problems faced by commuters as they approach the Brynglas Tunnels at Newport. Congestion is a major problem, particularly at rush hour and is hurting businesses and causing inconvenience to motorists.
Mr Davies said today: “It is vital for businesses and motorists in and around South Wales that the road capacity is increased.
"The current congestion is not just costing time it is hurting the economy of South Wales. I discussed the issue with the Secretary of State for Transport last week and I am happy to be able to offer written evidence in support of a new relief road to the Welsh Assembly.
"It is now time for the Assembly and the UK Government to get together and agree to fund and build this much needed piece of infrastructure.
"The consultation document is available online at www.M4newport.com. Anyone with an interest in this matter can give evidence and I would urge people to do so".
