A landmark report into the way Wales should be funded in the future is yet another step towards becoming a semi-independent autonomous state, according to Monmouth MP David Davies.
The Silk Commission says a referendum should be held on allowing the Welsh Government to vary income tax by 2020.
Recommendations also include devolving control over other smaller taxes, as well as giving the Assembly sole responsibility for setting business rates.
But Mr Davies said he was “not in the least bit surprised” by the report.
“I publically predicted when the Silk Commission was set up that it would rubber stamp proposals to give Wales tax raising and borrowing powers and that we could save £1 million by forgoing the pretence of a consultation,” he said.
“The outcome was inevitable and represents yet another step towards a semi-independent autonomous state.
“All of this follows on from a referendum which we were told would put an end to calls for further powers for the Assembly.
“I will now make another public prediction. As soon as these powers are given, the nationalists will start demanding that policing and possibly the legal system be devolved.”
