David Davies, MP for Monmouth, today condemned plans to cancel the No. 73 bus service between Chepstow and Newport as “ill-thought out and entirely unnecessary”. Speaking from Monmouth, David said, “People from the local area need access to many of the facilities in Newport, and this bus route is by far the most convenient way of getting to the town. I know that the route is a particularly popular one and is supported by the many people who have come to rely on it. “Cancelling the route will have a hugely detrimental impact of the local residents who travel to Newport for work, for leisure or to use the various administrative centres there. Exactly why this proposal ever saw the light of day is a complete mystery to me, and I have written to the Commercial Manager of Stagecoach asking him to reconsider the merits of these plans with all due urgency. “The people of Monmouthshire deserve to have a fully functioning and reliable public transport network and should not have these vital links taken away from them.”
