David Davies has urged Monmouthshire County Council to rethink its controversial proposal to close Gilwern Library.
David wrote to C Cllr Liz Hacket Pain, Cabinet Member for Culture, after being bombarded with pleas of help from worried residents.
In his letter, Mr Davies said: “I fully appreciate the pressures the local authority is under to save money. It is a disgrace that Monmouthshire has once again received a poor settlement from the Welsh Assembly Government and I realise that this is going to have an impact on services.
“However, I would respectfully ask you to review this particular decision. Gilwern Library is very popular and is well used by the village. Residents do not have the same easy access to other facilities as those who live in the towns and there are concerns that the elderly, disabled and people with mobility problems will be unable to travel to Abergavenny Library.
“I would also ask you to ensure any decision to axe two of the mobile libraries is given careful reconsideration”.
