An award-winning new housing development in Monmouthshire has been shown off to the area’s local MP.
David Davies visited Mill Meadows in Sudbrook near Caldicot to learn about the latest energy efficient advancements in housebuilding.
The Monmouth MP and Welsh Secretary was given a tour of the site, located on the banks of the Severn estuary, by developer Redrow and the National Housebuilding Council (NHBC).
Mill Meadows includes a mixture of two, three and four-bedroom homes, combining traditional architecture and modern interiors.
Packed with features that are designed to keep homes warm for less, Redrow’s ‘Fabric First’ approach to building homes means energy efficiency is constructed into their fabric through advanced insulation and smart heating systems.
"I would like to thank Redrow and NHBC for arranging my informative tour,” said Mr Davies.
“It was very helpful to learn first-hand about the latest building regulations and understand the steps Redrow is taking, such as installing air-source heat pumps, to improve sustainability in the industry.
“I also heard about the work of NHBC across the new homes industry, such as its training programmes for the next generation of house builders, and the ways in which its Buildmark warranty protects homeowners.”
He met with Nigel Palmer, managing director of Redrow in South Wales, and Luke Carter, regional director for Wales at NHBC.
Mr Palmer said: “As the UK’s leading premium builder, we work hard to give people a better way to live so we were delighted to have the opportunity to show the Secretary of State for Wales the pride that our colleagues take in creating homes of outstanding quality.”
Reflecting NHBC’s commitment to raise standards in the delivery of high-quality new homes, Mill Meadows also boasts an award-winning team – with initial site manager Craig Thomas scooping runner-up in the prestigious Pride in the Job Awards.
Known as the Oscars of the housebuilding industry and running for 43 years, Pride in the Job is the most prestigious benchmark for site managers. Mr Thomas achieved the Supreme Awards runner-up title in the Large Builder Category in 2022.
His previous accolades include NHBC Pride in the Job Regional Awards winner in 2021 and Seal of Excellence wins in both 2019 and 2020.
Mr Carter added: “Mill Meadows reflects the best of quality, modern housebuilding. The care and dedication taken by the whole site team is evident and it was a pleasure sharing this with Mr Davies.
“These homes embody NHBC’s high standards for house building and will be enjoyed by their residents for many years to come.”
