MONMOUTH AM Nick Ramsay and David Davies MP enjoyed a tour of Monmouth’s new leisure centre earlier this week, and were very impressed with the new facility.
The old building has been extensively refurbished and feels like a new build.
The centre boasts a new cafe, refurbished squash courts and meeting rooms.
On the first floor the new gym is state of the art and was clearly bustling during the visit.
The final piece of the jigsaw, the Pool, has involved excavation and strengthening of the building’s foundations but is well on its way to completion.
The new leisure centre opened earlier in the month and already 250 people have signed up to join with many more expected.
Centre Manager Nick Butler said:
"Staff and I were delighted with the high standards of equipment available to residents. As well as the gym and fitness room, the squash courts are open and there is a soft play area for children 11 and under with a cafe for parents."
Speaking today Nick said:
“Monmouth can be justly proud of this new facility which, along with the new school building, really puts Monmouth on the map. David and I would like to thank the manager Nick Butler and the staff for arranging today’s tour which we both thoroughly enjoyed.”
David added:
“As someone who is already a member of the new gym, I can vouch first hand for how good this new facility is. I’m grateful to the staff for showing us around, I know the leisure centre is going to go from strength to strength.
The Council have done a brilliant job and provided the town with a first class facility. The staff are also really friendly and professional and I was very grateful for the comprehensive induction when I joined the other day. I am certainly looking forward to working off a few calories here."
