Nearly 200 people filled a marquee at Chepstow Racecourse to hear from rising Conservative star Jacob Rees-Mogg.
The MP for North East Somerset, who has become something of a political celebrity, was guest of honour at Monmouth Conservative Association’s spring dinner on Friday (13 April).
Mr Rees-Mogg spoke about his vision of a country with low taxes in which everyone could inspire to an improved lifestyle.
He was joined by local AM Nick Ramsay and David Davies MP. Both paid tribute to their colleague’s willingness to expound his views.
“When Jacob is confronted with potentially violent masked demonstrators, he walks up to them and tries to reason with them,” said Mr Davies.
Association chairman Christopher Edwards added: “Jacob cuts an impressive figure; strong oratory skills give him the ability to connect with people.
“Those present considered his speech to be immensely powerful, as well as thoughtful.
“This was a very enjoyable evening all round and we look forward to holding further events with well-known speakers from UK politics."
