MONMOUTH MP David Davies has accused BT of ‘blatant money grabbing’ after the introduction of new payment charges.
As from 1st May, the telecoms giant will charge customers £4.50 extra each quarter if they chose to pay their phone bills by cash or cheque instead of by direct debit.
Mr Davies described the fee as ‘disgusting’ and called on BT to change its charging policy.
“This charge penalises many customers who pay their bills promptly, especially pensioners, and is totally unfair,” he said.
""It does not reflect the true cost of processing payments. Surely it is the customer’s right to pay their bill however they chose?
“BT are by no means the only company guilty of introducing yet more stealth charges, but it is nothing short of blatant money grabbing and this sort of financial blackmail needs to stop.
“I have written to BT to express my utter disgust and to ask them to reconsider this unreasonable charge”.
Mr Davies has also signed Early Day Motion 1230, which condemns the new charging scheme.
