Monmouth MP David Davies has described the decision by Cranberry Foods to axe 400 jobs at is factory in Abergavenny as ‘absolutely terrible news’.
Mr Davies said: “I was hopeful that some jobs could be saved but this is absolutely terrible news for the Monmouth constituency. “I think this demonstrates to everyone that Monmouthshire is not the well-to-to, affluent county that people think it is and that there are real problems.
“I have asked the Assembly’s Economic Minister to make an urgent statement on this announcement and I hope the Assembly will offer the same help to people who lose their jobs in Abergavenny that they previously quite rightly offered to steelworkers in Newport and people who’ve lost their jobs elsewhere.”
