On Wednesday this week, Monmouth MP David Davies MP recognised the importance of Holocaust Memorial Day, by signing the Holocaust Educational Trust (HET) book of commitment in the House of Commons.
In doing so David honoured the millions of people who died during the Holocaust, as well as the many Holocaust survivors who have dedicated their lives to telling and educating people about their harrowing experiences during the Holocaust. This will help ensure the horrendous crimes committed during the Holocaust are not forgotten or repeated.
Holocaust Memorial Day has special significance as Monday 27th January will mark the 69th anniversary of the liberation of the Nazi concentration and death camp Auschwitz-Birkenau, the site of the largest mass murder in history.
David Davies MP said:
“Holocaust Memorial Day marks the anniversary of the liberation of the Nazi concentration and death camp Auschwitz-Birkenau – and is an important opportunity to remember the victims and survivors of the Holocaust, so that it is never forgotten.
I have been privileged to meet on a number of occasions a survivor of the Holocaust living in my constituency who has been kind enough to share her experiences with me and which I found incredibly moving.
I know that to mark Holocaust Memorial Day next week, Shire Hall in Monmouth will be hosting a Holocaust exhibition. This will help my constituents mark the day in a way, which will ensure we never forget the despicable crimes of the Holocaust. I encourage all constituents who can, to visit the exhibition. “
Karen Pollock MBE, Chief Executive of the Holocaust Educational Trust, said:
“We are proud that David Davies, the MP for Monmouth is supporting Holocaust Memorial Day. It is vitally important that we both continue to remember and learn from the appalling events of the Holocaust – as well as ensuring that we continue to challenge antisemitism and all forms of bigotry.”
