Local politicians support Operation Christmas Child

Two politicians have teamed up to spread some festive cheer to disadvantaged children across the world.

David Davies MP and Nick Ramsay AM, together with their staff, have wrapped and filled shoeboxes full of gifts which will be sent overseas to underprivileged children as part of Operation Christmas Child.

Run by the Christian relief and development organisation Samaritan’s Purse, the shoebox appeal is the world’s largest and longest running children’s Christmas project.

Operation Christmas Child works closely with local churches and charities to make sure each shoebox gets hand-delivered to children based on need, regardless of their background and beliefs.

Father-of-three Mr Davies said: “My wife and I have supported this worthwhile project since our eldest daughter first started school.

“For those of us who are parents, we know just how excited children are when they open their presents on Christmas morning and to spread that joy to some of the most disadvantaged parts of the world is very humbling.

“Communities in Monmouthshire regularly come together to help those in need and I know Operation Christmas Child is strongly supported locally.”

Mr Ramsay added: “I’m delighted to be supporting this Christmas appeal with David and I’ll be thinking of the children opening our gift boxes on Christmas Day.

“Hopefully our small gifts will help a few underprivileged children enjoy this special day a little more.”
