Monmouth MP David Davies has made renewed calls for banks and building societies to stay on the high street for those who want to conduct their business in branch.
Mr Davies was speaking following a visit to Nationwide in Abergavenny today where he learnt about the latest technology being used to offer digital services, including video appointments with financial consultants around the country.
‘Nationwide Now’ allows customers to complete mortgage applications quicker and attend financial planning appointments at a time convenient to them instead of having to wait to see someone in-branch.
The move is part of an £80m branch investment by the building society.
“It was great to see Nationwide offering innovative digital services whilst not forgetting the importance of branch based banking for those who would rather conduct their financial affairs face-to-face,” said Mr Davies.
“Making banking accessible is vitally important so I’m pleased to see Nationwide investing in both digital and bricks-and-mortar banking to ensure customers get the best service possible.”
As well as touring the Abergavenny branch, Mr Davies spent time meeting staff members.
Branch manager Jacqueline Ralph said: “It was great to welcome David to our branch in Abergavenny today.
“With one quarter of all new mortgage applications in the Nationwide branch network now being advised by Nationwide Now, this was a great opportunity for us to showcase the services we are able to offer.
“I hope David enjoyed his visit as much as we did.”
