Back in July 2018, Aneurin Bevan University Health Board had sadly received a formal request from Churchwood Surgery to close their branch surgery premises at Goytre. Fortunately, this was subject to a patient consultation process, and in addition to patients completing a consultation questionnaire which were considered by the Health Board, many worried patients also got in touch with the local MP David Davies who also raised concerns about the proposed closure of the surgery and its impact on the community.
Much to the relief of local residents, it was announced late last week that now the consultation has been concluded by the Health Board, patients will be able to continue to access their General Medical Services from the premises located at Goytre as well as the main premises at Churchwood Surgery in Pontypool.
Mr Davies:
"I am delighted that ABHB have decided that the surgery will remain open. All too often when public bodies announce a consultation process they seem to have made up their minds in advance. On this occasion they took the trouble to listen to the concerns of local patients and elected representatives. I am grateful to ABHB for this and am very pleased that patients can now breathe a sigh of relief."
