David Davies, Member of Parliament for Monmouth, today urged Charles Clarke to resign over the foreign criminal scandal. It has been revealed that since 1999 over 1000 foreign criminals including murderers and rapists, who should have been deported after serving their sentence, have simply stayed without challenge, free to roam the British streets. Today in Parliament, the Home Secretary made a statement immediately after Prime Ministers Questions during which Davis stood up and made it quite clear to the chamber that Clarke should resign. He feels for ‘the publics’ sake’, Clarke should not continue as Home Secretary. “This is clearly a display complete incompetence on his behalf. This issue was raised as long ago as 1999 and since then, only 107 have been found leaving hundreds of murderers, rapists and paedophiles loose in the community and the government have admitted it has no idea where most of them are.” “How many more times must we put up with the Home Secretary’s failure to protect the British public. He must take responsibility for his errors and the only clear way forward is for him to hand in his resignation.” Mr Clarke apologised for his failures and offered his resignation, which the prime minister declined. Clarke is determined to stay on and clear up the mess. He has blamed the chaos on administrative failure, rather than any policy decision taken by him.
