David Davies, the MP for Monmouth, today welcomed news that Ponthir School is to remain open after a concerted and long-running campaign by local parents and residents. Speaking from Monmouth today, David said, “This really is outstanding news, and it is of enormous credit to the tireless work of the campaigners that this excellent local school will not be shut. I have been constantly impressed by the strength and scope of this campaign, which I myself have been involved in, and I pay tribute to the organisers who have made it such a success. “I shall be writing to Jane Davidson at the Welsh Assembly to congratulate her for finally listening to, and taking note of, the cries of people across Monmouthshire to keep Ponthir School open. This goes to show that concerted public effort really can make a difference with policy makers and that the voice of the public is a powerful tool indeed.”
