A number of residents have complained following Stagecoach West's confirmation that the Severn Express and X14 bus services between Newport, Chepstow and Bristol will be withdrawn from Sunday 14 June 2020.
The decision has come as a huge disappointment to residents and commuters in Chepstow; many of whom have been using the Severn Express for over 20 years. Axing the service will have a significant impact on those who rely on the only direct public transport connection between Chepstow and Bristol to get to work every day. It is also a crucial link for students studying at college campuses across the city.
Please find below a copy of the letter I have sent to Monmouthshire County Council. I have also written to the Minister for Economy, Transport and North Wales asking the Welsh Government to consider subsidising the Severn Express and X14 routes.
I assume that because of the coronavirus lockdown, there are very few people using both services at present. I therefore hope Stagecoach West might look at reinstating these bus routes once things return to normal if we see an increase in demand for public transport.
