Local rock band A Fool & His Money has been nominated by David Davies MP to represent the Monmouth constituency in the prestigous parliamentary ‘Rock the House’ competition.
The annual competition, now in its fourth year, celebrates up-and-coming unsigned British artists and the live music venues that support them.
It also seeks to raise awareness of intellectual property rights and the importance of copyright in protecting musicians.
Sponsored by industry and backed by a host of celebrity patrons, ‘Rock the House’ is a fantastic opportunity for local acts to gain priceless exposure and win a host of prizes, including festival slots, studio time and equipment.
Mr Davies put forward A Fool & His Money in the best band category.
The band emerged from the Monmouth/Newport area in spring 2014 and was formed from a long-time musical relationship between Michael Buffery (guitars) and Alistair Morgan (drums), with Greg Williams (vocals and bass) completing the line-up.
Michael, aged 21 and from Ponthir, said: “It’s great to be nominated by Mr Davies for Rock the House, especially from an area of Wales with such a lot of talent and a rich musical history.
“Here’s hoping we can make it all the way to the final”.
A Fool & His Money has blended elements of classic rock and alternative music, creating a distinctive sound full of high energy and reminiscent of Led Zeppelin, Rage Against the Machine and Red Hot Chili Peppers.
The band’s debut EP "Machine Gun Artistry" was written and produced last summer in Alistair’s garage at home in Monmouth, with only four microphones and no professional support or training.
They have received a fair amount of airplay. In addition to being played twice by Adam Walton on BBC Radio Wales, the song "Psyck” was recently ‘track of the week’ on The Amazing Radio Rock Show, as well as featuring on the Tom Robinson BBC Radio 6 Mixtape, Wales Online Playlist and various internet/student radio stations.
Mr Davies said: “A Fool & His Money are a fine example of the standard which ‘Rock the House’ showcases and also underlines the strength of talent that exists locally.
“I wish the band the very best of luck for the next stage of the competition.”
In the coming months, there will be several opportunities to see A Fool & His Money at various gigs and festivals lined up in the south Wales area.
