David Davies MP joined elderly guests for an afternoon of cake, laughter and companionship on Sunday (8th March).
Mr Davies attended a local tea party in Raglan organised by the Monmouth group of Contact the Elderly, a UK-wide organisation aiming to tackle loneliness and social isolation amongst older people who live alone.
The national charity, which celebrates its 50th anniversary on 19th April, arranges monthly get-togethers in the homes of volunteer hosts where people aged 75 and over can enjoy a chat and a cuppa.
“It was a real pleasure to visit the Monmouth group and to see first-hand the important work that Contact the Elderly are doing,” said Mr Davies.
“I heard some wonderful stories from the ladies, several of whom were in their 90s and remembered one of my predecessors, Lord Peter Walker. They didn’t say how I compared to him!
“These Sunday afternoon tea parties are a lifeline of friendship for many older people in our communities.
“I would like to say a special thank you to the volunteers who bring everyone together and to Mrs Karen Hurley for hosting this event at her home.”
