This year, Small Business Saturday is taking place on 5th December and I would like to encourage you to take part.
We all know the impact that COVID-19 has had on our small businesses, and also the resolve and determination they have shown in innovating and adapting to the challenges of the pandemic. Small Business Saturday 2020 is an opportunity to show our continued support and encourage our family, friends, neighbours and local communities to do so as well.
Since 2013, the Small Business Saturday campaign has been a key annual moment to promote our small businesses and champion what they do across the UK for our local communities.
Last year over 90% of local councils actively supported Small Business Saturday events, and approximately £800m was spent in small businesses across the country on the day. The significance of Small Business Saturday is even more pronounced this year and our small businesses need our support more than ever during these crucial winter months of trading.
There are lots of small businesses which will be open for shopping in-person including clothing boutiques, booksellers, homeware retailers and beauty salons. Many other small businesses will continue to offer takeaway and click and collect services, and even more will trade online.
Supporting small businesses doesn’t just mean spending - sharing social media posts, writing good reviews or promoting the work of businesses online are all ways to show support and these actions can have huge benefits for small businesses.
Let's continue to champion shopping at smaller retailers throughout the winter months, highlighting their role in local communities and keeping our small businesses thriving.
